Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,

I am writing this appeal as I have recently suffered a traumatic event that has hindered my ability to complete my exams and final assignments this semester. One of my housemates, whom I have lived with for the past three years, attempted extreme self-harm on Monday, April 6th in our home. As my housemate is from British Columbia, my other three roommates and myself stayed with her in the hospital for several days until her parents arrived, watching over both her physical and mental condition 24/7. Due to these circumstances I have found it extremely difficult to focus and concentrate on even simple tasks, and my sleep schedule has been severely impaired. Additionally, due to the violent nature in which my housemate acted within our home my roommates and I have felt unable to return to our house and have been temporarily residing in varying locations. This has interrupted my normal routine greatly. Under these conditions I would be unable to properly demonstrate my knowledge in an exam setting at this time. Additionally, I am graduating this year and attending graduate school in the fall, so it is imperative that I'm able to graduate on time with marks that reflect the effort I've dedicated to my courses throughout the semester.

I am requesting AG status, as encouraged by my Professors, for both ENGL 456 and ENGL 466. I do not need AG status for ARTH 242, as I did not have any final exams or projects for this course, or ENGL 436, as my Professor has agreed to reweight the final exam. This way I would be able to graduate on time without my marks being severely impacted.

Thank you sincerely for taking the time to read this appeal.

Best wishes,
- Nicole Hanley
