Petition Letter
Petition Letter: I am writing to appeal my academic dismissal from Queens University. I had a difficult time last semester dealing with anxiety that I had been struggling with a long time. I had initially thought I would be able to power through it. Unfortunatly the living alone, new environment, and new people seemed too daunting at the time and as a result I fled from my problems. I also had trouble with nutrition as walking to the dining hall every morning from harkness seemed too far so I skipped it which I realise now would have helped me focus and miss less classes. Since then I have gotten therapy and have worked in a job speaking to strangers to get over my anxeity. I am ready now to come back to the school and try my very best. I love Queens University and wish to be given a chance to prove that last year was not the best I could be.
Sincerely,
David Yeo
ADDTIONAL INFORMATION SENT BY STUDENT when asked about why he missed the deadline to appeal:
Dear Academic Appeal Office
As you know I failed many of my classes due to mental health issues. This obviously did not help my problems as I had been embarrassed and scared to talk to anyone about my time in University. I went to a family friend who also helped my older sister when she was younger for therapy. Although he is not a professional my sister recommended him as he was a big help to her. He helped work through my issues and anxiety. And up until a certain point in my therapy I was too scared to even open my email, check solus, or anything with queens. I know this might not be a valid reason for not submitting my appeal on time, but I really needed the space to think back on my actions before I felt I was ready to go back. I have improved immensely since then and I am happy to be given a chance to return.
Sincerely,
David Yeo
