Appeal Letter

Appeal Letter: To whom this may concern,

I am writing to request credit standing in Math121 which I took in Winter 2020. During the end of term/exam period, I was extremely sick. This severe flu lasted for almost two months. I believe it could have been the first strand of covid experienced in March2020, as I was bed-ridden for several weeks, had a very severe cough and I lost my sense of taste and smell. The document I provided from St. Josephs is from the very beginning of my sickness. For the remainder of my sickness, I used telehealth which advised me to quarantine since no testing centers were open at the time. This also caused an incredible amount of anxiety and stress, as the sickness was completely unknown at the time, and I feared that I could be putting my family member??s lives at risk.

During this time, students were provided with the option to designate a class as a credit standing once the term had ended. From my understanding, students were able to do this without question. The reason for my appeal was that I was unaware of this option due to my physical and mental health issues. At this time, I was very disconnected, and my grades were the least of my worries. I am now aware the deadline was extended to June 10th, but with the stress of recovering from sickness and the entire world going into lockdown, I was unaware of the option. For this reason, I would like the opportunity that all the other students had.

I understand that the Dean said that my grades did not decrease at my time of sickness. However, if I was aware of the opportunity to request credit standing in march 2020, I would have been able to do it without question.

I am in the process of applying to graduate school, and the application deadline is September 30th. Is there a chance that, if my appeal is approved, I could have my new transcript by that date?

Best,
Alexa
