Academic Appeal for a late drop of ASTR 101 Astronomy l: The Solar System Fall 2021

Dear Members of the Board of Studies,
My name is Jessie Duhaime and I am a second year Psychology BA Online student. I am submitting an appeal to the Board of Studies as the Associate Dean has denied my appeal to drop a course late.
My original appeal was denied because I did not drop the course within the required timeline. This would have been the obvious thing to do had I received clear indication that I was not progressing in the class. However, the feedback and the grades that I received from each assignment indicated excellent to exceptional performance that met the highest standards as per the Academic Regulations Section 10.1.1-Long Descriptors. This proved that I had a thorough understanding of the material taught within the course and that I could successfully apply it towards the assigned tasks. The assignments for this course contributed a total of 65% to the final grade. That is a significant amount of work that I completed and received positive feedback for, I had no reason to drop this course. In the event that I had an extenuating circumstance, the deadline to drop a course late would be waived had a met the requirements. Fortunately, for myself, I did not experience an event in my life that would count as an extenuating circumstance.
Throughout my appeal process which I have been enduring since February 2022, I have met with several departments which all mention that the course can be repeated. I understand that I can repeat this course in the future and have the lower grade removed from my transcript, however; I refuse to take the course again as the assignments are not an accurate representation of what is to be expected on the exam. The Associate Professor and Head Department of Physics, Engineering Physics, and Astronomy, Robert Knobel, shared with me in a virtual meeting that there was a 33% failure rate on the deferred final exam which shows that there is something wrong here.
I spent twelve weeks of my academic career participating in ASTR 101 Astronomy l: The Solar System and demonstrated a good academic performance but that did not reflect on my transcript as my GPA was affected by the failing grade. As another result of the F letter grade received on my transcript, my OSAP has been affected as I have recently found out that I have been placed on academic probation due to it. I am a hard working student and aspiring psychotherapist and have been working towards a brighter outcome of this unfortunate experience that is standing in the way of me achieving my goals. Please consider this information when making your decision.
