Petition Letter
Petition Letter: To Associated Dean of Studies of Arts and Science,
I am writing this letter to make an approval for a very late decision for dropping a course, Math 121. With a full schedule and a lot of workload, I had a hard time in trying to focus in my studies. Additionally, not having many friends that I could lean on, it was very stressful and lonely. From frosh week, I was informed that Dons are there to help, but having experienced racism in Montreal, I couldn't step up to ask for help to the Dons. On top of that, my grandfather who seemed to be doing well in his recovery from liver cancer was told last month from the hospital that he has breast cancer and needs an operation and special care. His liver cancer started about five years ago, and was attending the hospital every month. My grandfather, who is one of my role models, takes a large part of my experiences, and is the one who influenced me to go to Queen¿¿s University. Recently with all these events and traumas, I decided to drop a course, however I figured it was too late to drop a course, which is why I am writing this letter. Furthermore, I will be taking this course again in the summer since I feel that I couldn't show my full potential on the last few tests and exam.
On the Queen¿¿s arts and science website, I was informed that I need proof of my grandfather¿¿s medical issues, but I feel uncomfortable with asking my grandfather for a proof, because I don¿¿t want him to become more worried and sick because my academics was impacted by his health. However, I have proof of going back to Montreal, where my grandfather is, last month when he was announced to have breast cancer, which I will attach to this letter.
Thank you for your consideration.
Warm regards,
Jeewoo Han (10157100) (14jh17)
