Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,

Thank you for taking the time to consider my appeal. 2021 and the beginning of 2022 were very difficult for me as I was still recuperating from some family and personal trauma that I experienced and did not take the time to manage. To elaborate, my grandfather passed away overseas and due to COVID we were unable to receive any closure, also, my family was injured during the Beirut explosion in August of 2020 and all of that had built up, and I was in the process of leaving my abusive ex-fiancée, which in middle eastern culture is very similar to divorce.

I urge you to believe that I am not using these unfortunate personal crises as excuses, but I am trying to explain what I experienced during the time where my academic progress began to dip.
I ignored personal problems and shifted them aside to tried to push though my academic career in hopes of finding success and having that make up for what I was living through. I did not drop my courses in time because I did not seek mental help and was convincing myself that if I just push though and ignore everything around me, I will do well and proceed academically.

I acknowledge that I was wrong in doing so and will be taking advantage of the university's student wellness center and the student academic success services. I will be more vocal with professors and continue to communicate with my academic advisor Debby.
I have taken control of my life, and my future, and can assure you that moving forward, my academic progress and success will be evident as I have all the motivation and resources to succeed now.

My appeal is in hopes of having my failed courses dropped, such that my academic success is not hindered by this rough patch in my life as these courses (and my actions) drastically affected my academic standing, and my GPA. I am truly doing everything I can to succeed, and not have my academic success be dictated by those couple of years. I would be honored at a chance in succeeding at Queens.

Thank you for your time,

Noura Sleiman
