Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Academic Dean,

I am appealing to receive Aegrogat standing in HIST 295: The Holocaust, which I took in the Fall semester of 2021. Due to extenuating circumstances, I was unable to complete the final projects in this course, and further had to appeal to drop it past the deadline. As per the requirements to apply for Aegrogat standing, I completed and passed approximately 60% of the workload, and met the learning outcomes of the course. I have the completed notes and work to support this.

To further explain the extenuating circumstances that interrupted my completion of the course, I have several diagnosed mental illnesses that can grow to be debilitating at times. While I am usually capable of managing this, there were further factors at play at the time: my father??s severe illness, and difficult transitions in my personal life combined with my mental illness into an unmanageable crisis.

I took the following semester off to focus on my family and myself, spending three months in a mental health hospital. I have made big strides, and have returned to school this year. While my father remains quite ill, I myself have greatly improved, and can now focus almost entirely on my studies. Considering everything that transpired last school year, it would be a benefit to my academic career to have this credit.

Thank you for your consideration,

Neave Watson-Laird
