Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To the Faculty of Arts and Science,

I am appealing to drop ANAT101 and not write the exam scheduled on April 20th,

2015. I am dropping this course due to extenuating circumstances that have been out of

my personal control. Over the winter semester, I have developed severe depression and

anxiety due to personal circumstances. This has involved the death of a close friend on

New Year¿¿s Eve and the grieving of a close family member¿¿s death in February. I have

not been able to cope with these events mentally and physically; as such, they have

affected my ability to perform to my full academic capacity. I have developed noticeable

restlessness and a lack of motivation in all areas of my personal and academic life. This

has resulted in a daily emotional battle, and consequential carelessness surrounding my

own health, involving mental and physical self-harm.

I am aware that ANAT101 is a requirement for my program and I have every

intention to complete the credit, hopefully in the fall or winter semester of my third year.

I plan to utilize the time I have during the summer to focus on reviewing the material for

this course. I have been seeking counseling at HCDS, academic advisory and have started

taking anti-depressants. I have been having regular meetings at HCDS and they have

helped me create a plan for achieving academic success. I am also open to taking four

courses rather than the full five starting Fall 2015; taking a lighter course load will help

me invest more time in this course and ultimately aid in my success.

I have attached supporting documentation from HCDS if needed.

Thank you for your consideration,

Fenghua Jin
