Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,

I missed the June 14 appealing deadline because by then, I hadn??t decided what was the best for me. I wasn??t even sure if pursuing an academic career at Queen??s was still my best choice. It was not until I got the advice and support from Queen??s professors in my major, did I make the decision. After this semester started, I set up a meeting with Professor Brian Ling for advice with my academic future, who then referred me to Professor Peter Taylor. I discussed my situation with Professor Taylor, who looked at my transcript, analyzed the courses I took, expressed his concerns about me maintaining my Math abilities without following a class, and offered the option of taking MATH111. He also thinks that I will have a high chance of success in MATH111, since I already took and passed MATH121 and STAT268, and he will offer good support if the appeal is approved. Not until then did I make up my mind and filed this appeal, which I did immediately after the meeting.

I, Ziqi Meng, am a student that is on an academic probation. I am appealing to waive the requirement to withdraw for one year, to allow me to take one class, MATH111 for this and the next semester. I am asking for this with the support of Professor Peter Taylor, the Chair of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Math & Stats, who is teaching MATH111 right now.

When I was admitted to Queen's, I was an honor student. The reason for my academic underperformance in the last few years is largely related to the pandemic. At the end of the last winter semester, I got COVID, and it affected my performance and mental state last semester. I really hope that the school consider this and allow me to take one class.
