Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Hi there, I am writing this letter to request an appeal to waive the deadline for dropping a course. I have struggled throughout my university career and was not foreseeing a global pandemic when enrolling. My mental health challenges began in university and I may have been stigmatized against seeking help, which has prolonged my educational journey. I am interested in finishing my degree and graduating, but I understand that I need to complete my degree on my terms. I had a lot of internal pressure to finish my degree in the four-year period, but that was unrealistic due to the challenges that arose in my life. I am interested in retaking the same course next semester, or one similar so that I can graduate and move forward in my educational and career journeys. I have tried to finish this course and have reached out to academic advisors, my academic accommodation advisors, and the professor for support and they have been very accommodating. I am just too far behind in the course work to possibly submit any assignments for a grade and it is not fair to the staff that is supporting me to continue to support me in this avenue. Last semester, I took HLTH 305 and requested an incomplete grade to finish the outstanding assignments. My professor and the accommodation staff have been wonderful and supportive, but I am too far behind on the course content to get caught up, and I am currently enrolled in one course that I am focusing on fully. I intend to retake the course next semester, but because of a long waitlist, I probably won't be enrolled. I am seeking a late withdrawal from the course HLTH 305 (W.22) because of the mental health challenges I was enduring during the Winter 2022 semester.
