To whom it may concern,
It is with deep regret that I write you to appeal to drop a course (CHEM 282) after the academic deadline, and use the completed wet lab section as a replacement for virtual labs in CHEM 285 during the summer.
Over the past year, I have been dealing with mental health issues, which over the past semester have come to a head. These mental health issues have affected my ability to concentrate and effectively study, which are most impactful to courses which rely on testing (such as CHEM 282). Furthermore, both the timeline, and the nature of my illness put me in a position where it was increasingly difficult to make the decision to drop the course prior to the drop date.
Additionally, I plan on seeking professional treatment over the course of the summer, which will aid in the development strategies to improve my concentration, and prevent the deterioration of my mental health. Furthermore, I have a plan for the future, if my appeal is granted. I understand the difficulty of the course; and through the strategies I have began to, and will be developing during summer, in conjunction with the additional time I will be able to devote to CHEM 285 due to a decreased course load, I am confident in my ability to succeed.
