Over the past year, I have undergone intensive therapy and attempted recovery from an eating disorder, which I had handled, and had hoped to return to school this year with a clean slate. Unfortunately, while the eating disorder was addressed, an entirely new series of issues, predominantly substance abuse and addiction have come forth, making things immensely more difficult for me to continue with my studies. My addictions have left me unable to, with a lack of motivation, complete the work required to succeed in my academics as I have in the past, and hope to in the future. This issue of abuse began upon returning to Kingston in the Fall and only became more difficult to cope with, understandably making my studies that much more taxing. While I had hoped to have been able to regain my academic standing during this year, it simply became clear that my own health was more important. I believe that it is in my best interests both academically and mentally that I take the remainder of the academic year to address the addictions that I face. Through seeking professional help, both in therapy and rehab, over the course of the next year, I hope to return to Queen's to resume my studies in Film & Media and complete my four-year degree after the fact. This process would include re-taking and completing the courses above, and continuing on with therapy and maintenance to assist in keeping my vices at bay. I desperately want to continue with my studies at Queen's and have loved the remainder of my experience here. However, I feel that in order to do so, I must first recover from my own issues, allowing my academic success and mental well-being to take priority in my life.
