Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,




Since the pandemic started, I have battled depression for the last two years.

I started Arts and Science at Queens in the fall of last year. I was honoured to be part of such a passionate and diverse student body. Unfortunately, I struggled with mental health during the fall term. I relapsed during the academic year, especially during the Winter Term. Right after Winter Term started, I had a suicide attempt. I figured out, along with my psychiatrist, that it would be better to focus on my mental health. I dropped my winter courses and some fall courses I failed due to my relapses.
My mental health caused me not to perform as I expected. It caused me to miss classes, fail assignments, and essentially not focus on what I should do.

I took ASTR 101 during the fall term. I enjoyed the course and interacted with the professors. I learned and enjoyed the content but couldn??t perform as I wanted. Now I??m recovered and motivated to excel in university.

I??m now taking a gap year. I??m working with my therapist to build defence mechanisms against my illness, so my academic performance isn??t affected. However, I want to start again from scratch to demonstrate my capabilities. For that to happen, I??m appealing to you so I can drop the ASTR 101 class and commence again.
