Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,

I am writing to appeal for an incomplete grade to be extended. I'm writing to you with the hope to graduate this semester. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to explain my circumstances.

I admit I had a very difficult time last year, and my grades suffered as a result. I don't mean to make excuses for my poor academic performance, but I would like to explain the circumstances. Last year for the first time, my mental health was very low. I thought I could handle the workload of a full semester; however as the year went by I had to drop a couple courses as the workload was too much. Needless to say, even with the courses dropped I couldn??t focus on my work and the workload kept adding up. Recently, I have been through therapy and still going and my mental health has slowly started to get better. I understand now that I should have communicated with my professors (instead of avoiding them), or even taken a leave of absence. I thought I could handle all of these burdens, and I tried my best, but I was wrong.

It would mean so much to me to graduate this year, which would make me the first person in my family to complete a university degree. If my incomplete grade is extended, I am able to graduate this semester as I only require one more credit to graduate. I have spoken with my professor and he is willing to allow me to submit my missed assignments as well. . I hope you will give me a second chance. Thank you for considering this appeal.
