Petition Letter: Dear Dr. Stephenson,
I am appealing to make a course level change from ECON 110 to ECON 111 (Fall, 2022).
I have been diagnosed with depression and anxiety for the past 4-5. Since starting university this my mental health has been at one of the lowest points it has ever been. I have been finding it difficult to manage both my anxiety and depression while keeping up with schoolwork. Next semester I am taking harder classes, and my full-year classes are expected to get more difficult. I am concerned that I will not be able to keep up with all my classes and that my mental health will continue to deteriorate.
I am currently registered in the full-year economics class (ECON 110). It is the only class I am taking this year that I am finding quite difficult, and that is also not a required class for any programs I am considering pursuing.
I am appealing for a course level change from the full-year, ECON 110, to the single semester class, ECON 111. The first half of 110 is the same as 111 and if this change is permitted I would be able to stop taking economics next term while still getting credit for my work in the first semester.
If this change is permitted I would either lessen my course load to only 4 classes or take an easier class, to allow me to continue to succeed in my classes while having time to focus on improving and maintaining my mental health.
Although I know now, after speaking with academic advisors, that I would have been able to make this change before the course change deadline on November 1st, prior to speaking with academic advisors I was under the assumption I would automatically credit for my work in the first semester of economics if I dropped the class in the second semester because ECON 110 and ECON 111 are the same material. I thought that because I was making changes to my Winter term classes, I had until the deadline to add Winter term classes (on January 20th) to make changes to my schedule.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: To ensure future success I plan on taking a lighter course load. If my appeal for a course-level change is permitted I will be able to do so in the Winter term of 2023.
