Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,
I hope this letter finds you well. I would like to drop the course ARTH 374 because I feel that my accommodations have not been met reasonably for this course. I have failed every assignment this semester, and I feel that it is due to the lack of my accommodations being met. I require a semi-private room for examinations and 15 extra minutes per every hour. During my midterm examination, a large line of students handing back and receiving their exams made for an excess of unnecessary noise. When I received my exam, after the start time, I was never instructed when to start. In addition, I was never told any updates about how much time I had left. Each section was meant to be timed; however, there were no updates throughout the exam. In all the classes I have taken at Queens, the professors use On Q, which is a beneficial tool for people like me who like to see the material before and after class. However, in this class, the only content that was shared with us was the readings and syllabus through email. There was no access to course content, like lecture presentations, except during class time. Another of my accommodations is for a note taker as I struggle to listen to the lecture and take effective notes at the same time. Not only did the note taker only volunteer after our mid-term had already been taken, but they still have only updated course notes for the first half of the semester. I recently wrote an essay and got a mark back of 35%. I noticed there was no marking rubric or tally of how much it was out of, just comments on the paper with little to no explanation of how they got to the final mark. For these specific reasons are why I believe that I was not able to succeed in this course this semester. My results in this course are very out of character for me as I have never even come close to failing a course here at Queens. I know that if I continue with this course, there is not a good chance that I will be able to pass. Out of good faith, I will still take the exam in December, as I know I will not hear back before then. However, I don't feel as though it will genuinely benefit my mark. I feel strongly that as someone with accommodations, I was not supported by the teaching team of this class this semester.
