Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am appealing for a late drop in 2 of my courses, due to extenuating circumstances around my mental health. I have been dealing with personal mental health problems. Throughout the semester I became overwhelmed and anxious, and I realized that I could not control these feelings. These issues made it difficult for me to attend my lectures and seminars. I had courses where participation was very important in order to receive marks, so I was not able to receive those grades. Also, because I was behind in the course material, I felt uneasy about completing some assignments and did not have a grasp of the concepts in these courses. Upon meeting with an advisor, I realized that I needed extra support to deal with what is going on and have since taken some steps to deal with these issues. I have begun meeting with a mental health counselor to learn how to better understand myself and use the proper support systems provided around me. I am working with my advisors to become more organized, take things day by day and ensure that I have a schedule going forward so I can be successful in my academics. I will be attaching a letter from my mental health counselor to support this appeal as well.
