Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am an undergraduate artsci student looking to drop History 110. I have been dealing with ongoing mental health issues and personal circumstances that have lead my academic performance in this course to stagger, with the final exam exhibiting this to the highest extent. I strongly value academic performance and it matters deeply to me to stay true to these values, and I know that this course as well as the final exam will not allow me to do this, due to precious and ongoing circumstances. I deal with multiple mental health issues, which I have been in and out of therapy for as well as various medications. My parents are going through a divorce which had lead to me needing to go back and forth from queens and Toronto to move my belongings, which also meant I had to miss many classes - namely history 110. The divorce began in the third week of September, which is when I started having to leave campus, miss history classes, and complete assignments to a degree that I am in no way proud of. The divorce as well as my mental health issues have been ongoing from the beginning of the semester until now, but has significantly worsened in the past 2 weeks. This is the time period where I have been completely disconnected from my academics with no background information to go off of due to all of the missed history lectures earlier in the year. I feel that dropping this course would alleviate much of the stress and anxiety I deal with, as well as give me an opportunity to not by punished for my circumstances in the final exam.
