Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am applying for an academic appeal to drop my EMPR 210 course after the deadline for the reason that during the second half of the Fall semester, after the drop date, I experienced extreme psychological challenge. At the end of the month of November, I was the victim of a traumatic event that took a toll on me mentally which affected my physical health and my ability to focus, and actively produce my best work for this course. I fell into a depression, which resulted in grades that do not reflect my academic capabilities. A few weeks after the traumatic event, I realized I needed to talk to a someone to help me process and heal in order to get back on track both in my personal and academic life. Once I began talking to one of my close friends about the situation and I started to feel less helpless and slowly get back into my studies, although the damage to my grades within the course had already been done. I am applying for this appeal to drop the course because I believe it is an inaccurate reflection of my grade and abilities resultant from something that was out of my control that I fell victim too. I am working on healing from the situation and hope that this course will not taint my academic record as I apply to law school in hopes of attending in the Fall of 2023.
