Letter of Appeal
To Whom It May Concern,
I would like to appeal to drop class Devs 220 taught by Ian Fanning during semester 1 of 2022-2023 school year. Devs 220 is an intro to Indigenous studies course that took place online this semester. I am a student in the Concurrent education program at Queens University completing my Bachelor of Arts and Science (Honours)/ Bachelor of Education (Honours).
Through my best interest and recommendation from my professor, I am looking to drop this course. I have been struggling to keep up with my courses due to mental health issues beyond my control. These mental health issues kept me from being able to attend my classes frequently and submit work on time. I did reach out to student wellness and had a meeting with a counselor and received an accommodation. These issues have not cleared up after attending counselling sessions and took a toll on my academics. I was not able to keep up with the 6 courses I am enrolled in and would like to appeal to drop Devs 220 and retake it in the future. These issues have been happening since September when I received personal news. I missed a larger assignment in september that we continued to work on throughout the course until the final submission worth 40% of my grade. I was not able to complete this assignment as I missed the smaller building block assignments through the beginning of the course. I have reached out to my professor to see if there is anything I am able to do to make up marks but out of fairness to the rest of the class this was not possible therefore I would like to drop the class.
