Petition Letter: I am requesting to drop this course after the late drop period because of extenuating circumstances consisting of psychological problems. since the start of the semester in September, I have been having incredible difficulty with balancing my mental health and my studies. Mental illness has been an issue for me for a number of years now however this semester it was at its worst to the point where I had to go to the emergency room for suicidal ideation. These issues caused me to fall behind in work in all of my courses but in particular that of my PHIL 273 course. I met with a psychiatrist at Hotel Dieu who recommended DBT therapy as the doctor wanted to diagnose me with Borderline Personality Disorder. I met with a number of counsellors within Student Wellness Services and received accommodations halfway into the semester but they were not enough for me to catch up within this course. I am going to be starting the DBT therapy in the new year so that I can get a handle on regulating my illness to ensure this does not happen again in the next semester. As the supporting documents will show, my mental illness this fall semester was very difficult for me to deal with along with my coursework which caused me to have a bad academic performance, leading to me requesting a late drop for this course only.
