Petition Letter: To whom is may concern,
My name is Isaiah Adams, and I am a first-year student athlete here at Queen??s University. I am writing this appeal letter to request the drop of a course grade in the fall. The course grade I am requesting to be dropped is Introductory Biomechanics/KNPE 153. This past fall I suffered a season-ending injury and the impact of this severely affected my mental health. It took some time to get things fully diagnosed before my eventual surgery in early November. I was in a sling and was uncomfortable moving around and sitting up in class. After the surgery there were complications including migraines and the whole right side of my upper body being frozen. Experiencing these made it next to impossible to be able to attend class. At this point, I was feeling extremely lonely since I felt like I had nobody to talk to. I couldn??t attend my team??s practices anymore, and because of that I was inside for 3 weeks straight, sending me into a depression. This influenced my schoolwork as when I was able to do it, I couldn??t do it to the best of my ability. I was not able to study as well as I should of for my exams because of the mental and physical recovery. I am doing much better now because of the support of my coaches; athletics staff and I am working closely with my academic advisors and mental health support this semester.
