Petition Letter: To Whom This May Concern:
I am writing to appeal my 2022 fall semester enrollment in MATH 384. At the beginning of the semester, I went through a personal traumatic event that had a significant and negative psychological impact on me. Because of this, throughout the semester, I experienced challenges related to major depression and anxiety. This greatly impacted my ability to perform in school, despite being a student at Queen??s for four years without past struggles in keeping up with my coursework. I was unable to focus on anything, lost the motivation to maintain all areas of my life, and found it impossible to leave the house or interact with people I was comfortable with, amongst other things. These issues began in early September and have been ongoing.
Unfortunately, I did not receive academic support or accommodations until the end of the semester, after the drop deadline for classes had passed. Despite this, I made the decision to try and finish the semester and did my best to keep up with my coursework. However, the challenges I was facing affected my ability to fully engage in class and my grades suffered as a result, to the point where I failed MATH 384 and had to drop out of my statistics minor.
I would like to request that the extenuating circumstances of my personal challenges be taken into consideration, so that this course can be dropped from my transcript (changed from a grade of F to DR). I can provide supporting documentation from my doctor which verifies what I have described above.
Though this is an ongoing issue, I am working with my doctor through therapy and starting medication as well as utilizing my accommodations to ensure that this semester will be much smoother for me.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Sophia Paraskevopoulos
