Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To Whom This May Concern:

I am writing to appeal the status of my 2022 fall semester grade in COMM 621. Essentially, I would like to request that status be changed from its current letter grade (C+) to simply a credit standing (CR) to fulfill the requirements for my Certificate in Business at Smith School of Business but not count towards my GPA.

At the beginning of the semester, I went through a personal traumatic event that had a significant and negative psychological impact on me. Because of this, throughout the semester, I experienced challenges related to major depression and anxiety. This greatly impacted my ability to perform in school, despite being a student at Queen??s for four years without past struggles in keeping up with my coursework. I was unable to focus on anything, lost the motivation to maintain all areas of my life, and found it impossible to leave the house or interact with people I was comfortable with, amongst other things. These issues began in early September and have been ongoing.

Unfortunately, I did not receive academic support or accommodations until the end of the semester, after the drop deadline for classes had passed. Despite this, I made the decision to try and finish the semester and did my best to keep up with my coursework. However, the challenges I was facing affected my ability to fully engage in class and my grades suffered as a result, to the point where I performed poorly in COMM 621. In comparison, I received at least in A in all of the other commerce lasses I have taken previously.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
Sophia Paraskevopoulos
