I have carefully reviewed your petition and, while I am unable to grant all of these requests, I want to assure you that your circumstances were considered thoughtfully and with care as part of the decision‑making process.
I am able to grant your request for an Exam Deferral in CISC 235 and MATH 112 (W26).
The instructor of CISC 235 can facilitate the deferral in August and it is your responsibility to contact them today to make these arrangements.
The instructor of MATH 112 (W26) cannot facilitate a deferral until the 2026 Fall term in September and so I would alternately like to allow you to drop this course after the academic deadline. If you choose to accept this option, your final grade will be replaced with a DR notation on your transcript. Please email asc.petitions@queensu.ca within 10 business days of receiving this letter if you wish to proceed. Alternatively, it is your responsibility to contact Instructor Farraud today to make the arrangements for a deferred final exam in September.
Regarding your request for exam deferral in CISC 203 (W26), Academic Appeal and Petition Regulation 1.7.1.6 (Requests for an Extension of an Exam Deferral) outlines that a student affected by extenuating circumstances who cannot write an exam as scheduled may request academic consideration and ask the course instructor for an exam deferral. Instructors may approve a deferral for up to one full term following the completion of a course. Where a student is unable to write the deferred exam due to the same or different extenuating circumstances, any request for an additional deferral must be made by petition to the Associate Dean (Academic) and must be supported by appropriate documentation. The instructor is consulted to confirm their agreement and availability to support a further deferral. I acknowledge the health-related challenges you described in your petition letter and am sincerely sorry that these circumstances had such a significant impact on your Winter term courses.
