Dear Mr. Peng:

I have carefully considered your appeal to drop PHIL 301, PHIL 318, PHIL 335, PHIL 347 and PHIL 361 (F 2015) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

I would like to strongly caution you that this was a lenient decision. The appeals system is not designed to compensate for extenuating circumstances that are ongoing in nature for which the student is unable or unwilling to effectively resolve or manage. You have made appeals in the past and continue to register in courses and not drop them by the academic deadlines despite your personal challenges. However, I will allow you the chance to take responsibility for your academic success in the winter term. Please ensure that you seek personal counselling to help you deal with your family issues and take advantage of the workshops and academic support offered through The Learning Commons in Stauffer Library. As we discussed, I recommend that you carry a course load of no more than 3 courses this term in order for you to be successful. The last day to drop a winter term course is Friday, February 26.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

I am confident that in the future you will make every effort to inform yourself of the academic regulations concerning deadlines as they are outlined in Important Dates Section on the Arts and Science web page. These deadlines have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students and to facilitate the timely completion of university studies at Queen's.
