Dear Ms. Hunt:
I have carefully considered your appeal to receive Credit standing in ENGL 100B, FILM 110B and PSYC 100B (W 2014). After reviewing your file I have decided to grant your request for Credit standing in ENGL 100 and PSYC 100 but I will deny your request for Credit standing in FILM 110.
As you know, Academic Regulation 10.2.2. states that Credit standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed and passed all of the work of the course including the final examination, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond their control, earned a substantially lower grade than might have been expected, normally a grade of C or lower€. According to your FILM 110 instructor, you did not participate in tutorials (you were not in attendance), nor did you complete all the tests; and because you have not completed all of the work required for the course you are not eligible for Credit standing. From your letter, it does not appear that your extenuating circumstances would have prevented you from attending classes and tutorials or making alternative arrangements.
The grade changes in ENGL 100 and PSYC 100 will result in your cumulative GPA changing to 1.47. Because it remains below 1.60, you still remain on academic probation.
If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean€™s decision to the Board of Studies, you must submit a letter of intent to appeal within 21 days of receiving this decision.
