Dear Mr. Boos:

I have carefully considered your appeal to drop CISC 101 (W 2016) past the academic deadline as well as receive Aegrotat Standing in ECON 110, POLS 110, PSYC 100 and SOCY 122 (FW 2015/16). After reviewing your file, I have decided the following:

1. I will grant your request to drop CISC 101 (W 2016) past the academic deadline.

2. I will grant your request to receive Aegrotat standing in POLS 110 and SOCY 122. Your grades in these courses will appear on your transcript as follows along with the notation €œAegrotat: Estimated grade€:

POLS 110 B €œAegrotat: Estimated grade€
SOCY 122 C- €œAegrotat: Estimated grade€

3. I will deny your request to receive Aegrotat standing in ECON 110 and PSYC 100.

While your appeal does describe some circumstances that are extenuating in nature and there is supporting documentation supplied to confirm them, your instructors cannot support Aegrotat standing in these courses. ECON 110 is structured in such a way that microeconomics is taught over the course of the fall term and the evaluation for microeconomics take place during the December exam period. Macroeconomics is covered over the winter term and the final exam in April serves as the evaluation for the macroeconomics material covered in the course. Therefore, by missing the April exam, you will not have met the learning outcomes for the macroeconomics portion of ECON 110 and for that reason, I cannot allow an Aegrotat grade. However, I will support an exam deferral instead and I understand that you have made the appropriate arrangements with your instructor already. If you haven€™t, you should do so as soon as possible.

PSYC 100 is structured in such a way that the final exam is the primary assessment used to determine learning outcomes and mastery of the course material. Without writing the final exam, it is not possible to determine whether or not the learning outcomes for the course have been met by the student. Therefore, the Psychology Department has a policy in place that students must pass the final exam in order to pass PSYC 100, and as a result, I cannot allow an Aegrotat grade in this course. However, However, I will support an exam deferral in this course as well and I understand that you have made the appropriate arrangements with your instructor already. Again, if you haven€™t, you should do so as soon as possible.

If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean€™s decision to the Board of Studies, you must submit an appeal to the Board of Studies within 21 days of the date this decision was sent.
