Decision Letter

Appeal Number: 1940
Decision Date: April 13, 2016
Associate Dean: Sue Blake
Student Name: Morgann Cameron
Student Email: 14mjc2@queensu.ca

Course: CHEM 223
Term: Winter
Year: 2016
Category: Drop a course after the academic deadline

Dear Ms. Cameron:

As requested, I have carefully reconsidered your appeal to drop CHEM 223 (W 2016) past the academic deadline with the new documentation provided. After reviewing your file with this additional documentation, my decision to deny your appeal remains unchanged.

I am not convinced that there are any extenuating circumstances beyond your personal control that warrant dropping this course past the academic deadline. The documentation indicates that you are experiencing stress but there is no indication of the severity of your stress nor does is there any explanation of the impact that this stress is having on CHEM 223 in particular. Furthermore, your letter does not adequately explain why your stress is affecting CHEM 223 but not the other courses you are currently taking.

If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean€™s decision to the Board of Studies, you must submit an appeal to the Board of Studies within 21 days of the date this decision was sent. Guidelines for appealing to the Board of Studies and the appeal form can be found at: http://www.queensu.ca/artsci/students-at-queens/academic-appeals (click on €œBoard of Studies€) Do not use the on-line application for this process. You may contact Mr. Harry Smith, Office of the Ombudsperson for advice on matters of procedure and on obtaining a representative. His office is located in room 421 Robert Sutherland Hall and he can be reached by phone (533-6495) or e-mail (ombuds@queensu.ca).

Sincerely,

Sue Blake
Assistant Dean (Studies)
