Dear Mr. Wilson:

I have reviewed your appeal to change the grades you received in DEVS 240, ECON 250 and COMM 200 (W 2016) to Aegrotat standing. After careful consideration of the documentation you submitted and the information supplied by the instructors about the circumstances surrounding these courses, I have decided the following:

1. I will grant your request for Aegrotat standing in DEVS 240 and ECON 250. The instructors of these courses have already submitted replacement grades based on the work you have completed, which will appear on your transcript as A- and A, respectively, along with the notation €œAegrotat: estimated grade€.

2. I will deny your request for Aegrotat standing in COMM 200. As per the course syllabus for COMM 200, students must write and pass the final exam in order to pass the course. Without writing the final exam, you will not have demonstrated that you met the learning objectives for this course; therefore, I cannot allow an AG grade. However, Professor Bissonette is willing to allow you to write a deferred exam in the fall instead. Please contact him directly to make the appropriate arrangements.

If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean€™s decision to the Board of Studies, you must submit an appeal to the Board of Studies within 21 days of the date this decision was sent. Guidelines for appealing to the Board of Studies and the appeal form can be found at: http://www.queensu.ca/artsci/students-at-queens/academic-appeals (click on €œBoard of Studies€) Do not use the on-line application for this process. You may contact Mr. Harry Smith, Office of the Ombudsperson for advice on matters of procedure and on obtaining a representative. His office is located in room 421 Robert Sutherland Hall and he can be reached by phone (533-6495) or e-mail (ombuds@queensu.ca).

Sincerely,

Johanne Bénard, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Studies)
