I have carefully considered your appeal to drop PHYS 212 and PHYS 250 (W 2016) past the academic deadline as well as receive Aegrotat standing in PHYS 216 and MATH 110B (W 2016). After reviewing your file I have decided the following:
1. I will grant your request to drop PHYS 212 and PHYS 250 past the academic deadline.
2. I will grant your request to receive Aegrotat standing in MATH 110. Because the final exam is a key indicator of academic performance in the course and you did not write the final exam, the instructor feels that it is not possible to estimate an accurate final grade in this course. Therefore, your final grade in MATH 110 will be posted as CR (meaning that you earned credit for the course but there is no grade and thus, not calculated in your GPA) along with the notation €œAegrotat: Estimated Grade€.
3. I will deny your request to receive Aegrotat standing in PHYS 216 but allow you to drop the course late instead.
As you know, Academic Regulation 10.3.1. states that, Aegrotat estimated standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed and passed at least 60 per cent of the work for a course, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond his or her control, is unable to complete all of the work of the course.€ Students must also have demonstrated that they have met the learning outcomes of the course.
Unfortunately, in the case of PHYS 216, you have not completed at least 60 of the work and have not met the learning outcomes for the course so you are not eligible for Aegrotat standing. However, given your circumstances, I would be willing to allow you to drop this course instead.
If you choose to accept my offer to drop PHYS 216, this course will appear on your transcript as DR and it will not affect your GPA. To formally accept this offer, please email asc.appeals@queensu.ca within 21 days of receiving this decision letter to confirm your request. Once it has been received we will make the change to your transcript.
