I have carefully considered your appeal to waive the Faculty ruling that you be Required to Withdraw for a Minimum of Three Years. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request. You may now resume your studies at Queen's University.
In order to reactivate your student file, you must complete a €œReturn to Studies€ form: http://www.queensu.ca/artsci/sites/default/files/return_to_studies.pdf and return it to our office as soon as possible. Please ensure you indicate your desired degree program and Plan (concentration). Once our office has received departmental approval of your degree plan, your file will be reactivated. As you might be aware, Academic Regulation 13 currently states that at the end of each Winter Term in which a student has attempted 18.0 or more units since the time of their previous assessment, that student is assessed for academic progression. If, at the time of this assessment, the GPA is below 1.60 an academic sanction is triggered. In your case, since you have a previous requirement to withdraw on your record, that sanction would be a requirement to withdraw for a further three years. Your current GPA is 1.31. The attached document contains more detail concerning academic probation and progression but if you have questions about this, or if you would like to know what grades you will need to get to be released from academic probation, please feel free to contact our office at 613-533-2470 and we can arrange an appointment for you to speak with an academic advisor.
Both a Plan GPA and cumulative GPA of 1.60 are also required to graduate with a three-year General degree. I would draw your attention to the full academic regulations, particularly 13 (Academic Standing) and 16 (Requirements to Graduate) in the Arts and Science Academic Calendar: http://www.queensu.ca/artsci/students-at-queens/academic-calendar I would also refer you the GPA calculator tool on the Arts and Science website http://www.queensu.ca/artsci/students-at-queens/gpa-calculators It appears that you will likely need to repeat some of the courses for your Life Science General Plan as your Plan GPA is currently 1.40.
As part of your return to studies, you may wish to seek academic counselling from an advisor in the Faculty of Arts and Science Student Services office to go over your Program Requirements as well. Appointments can be made by dropping in to our office (Main Floor Dunning Hall) or by phoning 533-2470. You may also wish to contact your Department of concentration for advice on the successful completion of your academic program. The Learning Commons in Stauffer Library provides a range of services, including workshops designed to improve study skills and develop strategies for meeting the demands of academic life. Student Wellness Services located in the LaSalle Building at 146 Stuart Street also offers personal and academic counselling free of charge to all Queen's students as well as individual consultation to aid in coping with difficulties of a more personal nature.
I hope that you will take advantage of the support services available to you at Queen's. In returning to a regular course of study it is your responsibility to choose courses carefully, seek out the advice necessary to improve your academic performance, and maintain a GPA consistent with the requirements for successful completion of your plan.
