Dear Ms. Ivkovic:

I have reviewed your request to complete the winter term of your third year of your BA (Honours) degree with a Medial concentration in French Studies and Spanish at The Sorbonne University in France. As you know, Regulation 14.4 indicates that €œnormally the last two years of the Honours degree are taken in the Faculty of Arts and Science at Queen€™s.€ However, given the circumstances explained in your letter of appeal, and the support of the French Studies Department, I agree to this request. Please consult with your department regularly to ensure that the courses you select at The Sorbonne University will properly fulfill the Queen€™s requirements for your degree.

Dr. Dufresne confirmed that the French Studies department would consider the course €œFrench Language and Phonetics€ as a substitute for FREN 320 provided that you pass an oral proficiency test in French once you return from your term away.

Your application for the letter of permission has been forwarded to Mary MacDonald in the International Programs Office for processing. Please allow up to 21 days to receive a response.

Note that official transcripts with final grades must be received by the Faculty of Arts and Science Office by 15 May to be considered for graduation at Spring Convocation, or by 15 October for Fall Convocation. Finally, please keep in mind that you must achieve a minimum grade of C on each course taken on a Letter of Permission, unless stated otherwise.

I wish you well in the remainder of your studies at Queen€™s, in your studies at The Sorbonne University, and in your future undertakings.

Yours sincerely,

J. Hugh Horton, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Studies)
