I have carefully considered your appeal to drop DEVS 502 and POLS 395 (F 2015) past the academic deadline as well as receive Aegrotat Standing in POLS 310, POLS 384 (W 2015), ENSC 321 and POLS 320 (W 2016). After reviewing your file, I have decided the following:
1. I will grant your request to drop DEVS 502 and POLS 395 past the academic deadline.
2. I will grant your request for Aegrotat standing in POLS 384. Your grade in this course will appear on your transcript as B, along with the notation €œAegrotat: Estimated Grade€.
3. I will grant your request for Aegrotat standing in ENSC 321. Your grade in this course will appear on your transcript as B, along with the notation €œAegrotat: Estimated Grade€.
4. I must deny your request for Aegrotat standing in POLS 310 because the instructor confirmed that you failed to submit the required essay for this course, which is the key assessment for determining whether or not the student has met the learning outcomes for this course. Meeting the learning outcomes is a requirement to be eligible for an Aegrotat grading. I would however, be willing to allow you to drop this course past the academic deadline instead. If you would like to accept this offer, please email asc.appeals@queensu.ca within 21 days of receiving this decision and we will make the appropriate changes to your transcript.
5. I must deny your request for Aegrotat standing in POLS 320. In order to be eligible for AG standing, in addition to meeting the learning outcomes for the course, the student must also have completed at least 60 per cent of the work required for the course. IN POLS 320 you have completed 50 per cent of the work only €“ a first writing assignment worth 5, a midterm exam worth 25, a film response assignment worth 10 and class participation worth 10. Again, as an alternative option, I would be willing to allow you to drop this course past the academic deadline instead. If you would like to accept this offer, please email asc.appeals@queensu.ca within 21 days of receiving this decision and we will make the appropriate changes to your transcript.
6. It appears from your transcript that you earned a grade of D- in POLS 313. Although you did not make a request on your transcript, given your circumstances, I would be willing to allow you to change your grade in that course to Credit standing (CR). Credit standing means that the student completed and passed the course, but because of extenuating circumstances, the student received a lower grade than he or she would normally expect. In this case, we would remove the low grade from the transcript and replace it with a CR, meaning that the student earned credit for the course and it counts toward the degree requirements but there is no grade so it is not counted in the GPA. If you would like to accept this offer, please email asc.appeals@queensu.ca within 21 days of receiving this decision and we will make the appropriate changes to your transcript.
