Dear Ms. Vijayakumar:

I have carefully considered your appeal to drop BIOL 341 (W 2015), MATH 121 (S 2015), PHAR 100 (F 2015), BIOL 330, ENSC 301 and PHIL 301 (W 2016) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

I would like to note that the appeal system is not designed to compensate for circumstances that are ongoing in nature and remain unresolved to such a degree that they continue to impact a student€™s academic progress. You have now submitted a number of appeals based on your ongoing health condition and while I understand that this is a serious and difficult condition to manage, students are expected to assess their ability to complete each course they take before the deadlines to drop each term and a make a proactive decision based on their current health situation and the amount of work left to be completed in each course. Any further appeals must show with appropriate documentation that you have actively assumed this responsibility. To help you with these decisions, I urge you to consult with an academic advisor prior to the drop deadlines each term (the last day to drop a 2017 winter term course is Friday, March 3). Appointments can be made by calling 613-533-2470.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

I am confident that in the future you will make every effort to inform yourself of the academic regulations concerning deadlines as they are outlined in Important Dates Section on the Arts and Science web page. These deadlines have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students and to facilitate the timely completion of university studies at Queen's.
