Dear Ms. Choy:

I have carefully considered your request to have your appeal heard after the 21-day timeline for submission. Based on the circumstances you refer to in your letter of appeal and in our Skype meeting, I have decided to waive the timeline and grant your request to drop all courses from 2015 and 2016:

Fall 2015: GPHY 332, GPHY 351, GPHY 402 and HIST 200
Winter 2016: GPHY 339, HIST 241, HIST 252
Fall 2016: HIST 200

This decision will result in a change to your academic standing and you will receive a separate email confirming this.

I must however deny your request to appeal to drop courses from Summer 2013 to Summer 2015. It is not clear or documented as to why you were able to successfully complete some courses but not others during this time period. Without compelling evidence of the severity and impact of your situation on specific courses I cannot reasonably waive the academic regulations.

If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean€™s decision to the Board of Studies, you must submit an appeal to the Board of Studies within 21 days of the date this decision was sent. Guidelines for appealing to the Board of Studies and the appeal form can be found at: http://www.queensu.ca/artsci/students-at-queens/academic-appeals (click on €œBoard of Studies€) Do not use the on-line application for this process. You may contact Mr. Harry Smith, Office of the Ombudsman for advice on matters of procedure and on obtaining a representative. His office is located in room 421 Robert Sutherland Hall and he can be reached by phone (533-6495) or e-mail (ombuds@queensu.ca).

Yours sincerely,

Sue Blake
Assistant Dean (Studies)
