Dear Mr. Murray:
I have carefully considered your request to have your appeal heard after the 21-day timeline for submission. Based on the circumstances you refer to in your letter of appeal, I have decided to waive the timeline and proceed with hearing your late appeal. My decisions are as follows:
1. I will grant your request to drop CLST 321, HIST 209, HIST 285 (W 2016) and HIST 216 (F 2016) past the academic deadlines.
2. I will grant your request to receive Credit standing in HIST 250 (FW 2015/16). Your grade in this course will appear on your transcript as CR.
3. I must deny your request to receive Credit standing in HIST 289 (F 2016).
As you know, Academic Regulation 10.2.2. states that, Credit standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed and passed all of the work of the course including the final examination, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond their control, earned a substantially lower grade than might have been expected, normally a grade of C or lower€. We consulted with your instructor to determine your eligibility for a CR grade in HIST 289 and she confirmed that you have not completed all of the requirements for the course. You are missing 10 €œfive minute papers€ worth 15 of the course grade as well as two individual assignments each worth 10 of the course grade. For this reason, I unfortunately cannot grant your request. However you may be eligible for an Aegrotat (estimated) grade based on the work you have completed (please note a minimum of 60 of the course work must have been completed to qualify for Aegrotat standing). Please advise if you wish to request Aegrotat standing in HIST 289 by emailing asc.appeals@queensu.ca within 21 days of receiving this decision to advise if you wish our office to pursue that option.
Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean€™s decision to the Board of Studies, you must submit an appeal to the Board of Studies within 21 days of the date this decision was sent. Guidelines for
