I have carefully considered your request to have your appeal heard after the 21-day timeline for submission. Based on the circumstances you refer to in your letter of appeal, I have decided to waive the timeline and grant your appeal to drop ENGL 285, WMNS 230, ENGL 204 (F 2008), ENGL 250 (FW 2008/09), WMNS 215, ENGL 265 (W 2009), GNDS 335, GNDS 370, GNDS 345, GNDS 212 (F 2010), GNDS 311, GNDS 215, GNDS 315, ENGL 205 (W 2011), GNDS 350 (F 2011), GNDS 427, GNDS 320, GNDS 321, ENGL 277 (W 2012), GNDS 345, GNDS 421 (F 2012), GNDS 340, GNDS 360, GNDS 215 and GNDS 440 (W 2013) past the academic deadline.
Because you received a passing grade in GNDS 212 and GPHY 352 (F 2011) you cannot drop these courses but instead, you may receive Credit standing. This will allow you to count those courses toward your degree requirements but the grades will not be included in your GPA. In addition to GNDS 212 and GPHY 352, I am also willing to allow you to change your grade in WMNS 211 (W 2009) to CR (Credit standing). If you would like to accept this offer to change your grades in these courses to CR, please email asc.appeals@queensu.ca within 21 days of receiving this decision and we will make the appropriate changes to your transcript.
My decision to grant this appeal acknowledges your significant extenuating circumstances over many years, and I commend you for working hard to resolve your situation and return to Queen€™s. However, granting your request to drop 25 courses and allowing credit standing in 3 courses is an extraordinary situation, and a decision that I did not make lightly. Going forward it is your responsibility to manage your ongoing circumstances, monitor your workload carefully and pay attention to drop deadlines, to avoid further appeals of this type. Academic advisors are available in the Student Services Office to assist with any questions you may have. Appointments can be made by calling 613-533-2470.
Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
