Dear Mr. Marriott:

I have reviewed your appeal to change the grades you received in ENGL 321 (F/W 2016-17), ENGL 356 (F/W 2016-17), ENGL 360 (F/W 2016-17) and ENGL 486 (F/W 2016-17) to Aegrotat standing.

1. I will grant your request to receive Aegrotat standing in ENGL 321, ENGL 356 and ENGL 486. The instructors of the courses have already submitted replacement grades based on the work you have completed, which will appear on your transcript as follows:

ENGL 321 C+ along with the notation €œAegrotat: estimated grade€.
ENGL 356 C- along with the notation €œAegrotat: estimated grade€.
ENGL 486 A- along with the notation €œAegrotat: estimated grade€.

2. I must deny your request to receive Aegrotat standing in ENGL 360.

As you know, the Appeal regulations state that, Aegrotat standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed and passed at least 60 per cent of the work for a course, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond his or her control, is unable to complete all of the work of the course.€ We consulted with your instructor to determine your eligibility for an AG grade in ENGL 360 and she confirmed that you have not completed 60 of the work but have completed only 50 of the course work. I would be willing to allow you to drop this course past the academic deadline instead. If you would like to accept this offer, please email asc.appeals@queensu.ca within 21 days of receiving this decision to confirm and we will make the appropriate changes to your transcript.

If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean€™s decision to the Board of Studies, you must submit an appeal to the Board of Studies within 21 days of the date this decision was sent. Guidelines for appealing to the Board of Studies and the appeal form can be found at: http://www.queensu.ca/artsci/students-at-queens/academic-appeals (click on €œBoard of Studies€) Do not use the on-line application for this process.
