Dear Mr. Lenz:

I have carefully considered your appeal to drop POLS 242 (W 2016) past the academic deadline and receive Credit standing BIOL 202 (W 2016). After reviewing your file I have decided the following:

I will grant your late course drop in POLS 242 as the difficulties documented in your appeal took place on the day of the POLS 242 exam. This grade will be changed to DR, meaning €œdropped€ and it will not be calculated into your GPA.

I must however, deny your request for Credit standing in BIOL 202. The documented circumstances in your appeal refer to the difficulties you encountered on April 12, 2016 specifically and does not explain how these circumstances impacted your performance in BIOL 202. Your grade in BIOL 202 also appears to be generally in line with your other grades on your transcript. Without any clear evidence to show that your extenuating circumstances directly affected your performance in this course and led to your grade being lower than you would have earned under usual circumstances, I cannot reasonably allow this change to your transcript.

If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean€™s decision to the Board of Studies, you must submit an appeal to the Board of Studies within 21 days of the date this decision was sent. Guidelines for appealing to the Board of Studies and the appeal form can be found at: http://www.queensu.ca/artsci/students-at-queens/academic-appeals (click on €œBoard of Studies€) Do not use the on-line application for this process. You may contact Mr. Harry Smith, Office of the Ombudsman for advice on matters of procedure and on obtaining a representative. His office is located in room 421 Robert Sutherland Hall and he can be reached by phone (533-6495) or e-mail (ombuds@queensu.ca).

Sincerely,

Sue Blake
