Category: Drop a course after the academic deadline

Dear Ms. Nasseh:

I have carefully considered your appeal to drop CISC 458 and CISC 462 (W 2017) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

In my previous appeal decision letter I asked you to follow some specific recommendations and I cautioned you that further appeals based on the same circumstances would not continue to be granted unless you could demonstrate that you followed through with the recommendations made. Given that you followed through on most of those recommendations and that you have decided to graduate with your Bachelor of Computing General degree, I think it is reasonable to allow these late course drops.

You are expected to watch your academic progress very carefully and drop courses within the academic deadlines if you do not feel that you can successfully complete them. Your transcript shows that you are registered in two summer term courses that you do not specifically need to graduate. I would recommend that you consider dropping these courses, especially in light of the fact that your medical note indicates your estimated recovery time as Fall 2017.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

I am confident that in the future you will make every effort to inform yourself of the academic regulations concerning deadlines as they are outlined in Important Dates Section on the Arts and Science web page. These deadlines have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students and to facilitate the timely completion of university studies at Queen's.

Yours sincerely,

Johanne Bénard, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Studies)
