Dear Ms. Weber:
I have reviewed your appeal to change the grade you received in GPHY 102 (Winter 2009) to Credit standing. Unfortunately, it does not appear that you are eligible for this notation.
According to your instructor, you have completed 90 percent of the work required for GPHY. In order to be eligible for Credit standing, the student must have completed all of the requirements for the course. Therefore, I cannot hear this particular request. However, I can consider a request for Aegrotat standing. Aegrotat standing is awarded in cases where the student has not been able to complete all of the requirements of a course due to extenuating circumstances, but has completed enough work to be assigned a final estimated grade based on the work completed. To be eligible for an Aegrotat grade, the student must have completed at least 60 percent of the work required for the course, has a passing grade based on the work completed and has met the learning outcomes for the course.
Given that you have some documented extenuating circumstances and you are eligible for an Aegrotat grade, I would be willing to allow this option instead. Your instructor confirmed that your final estimated grade based on the 90 percent of work completed would be C- so your final grade would appear on your transcript as C- along with the notation €œAegrotat: Estimated Grade€. If you would like to accept this offer, please email asc.appeals@queensu.ca within 21 days of receiving this letter and we will make the appropriate changes to your transcript.
