Dear Ms. Montgomery:

I have carefully considered your appeal to add CHEM 213, CHEM 311, CHEM 312, CHEM 313 (F 2017), CHEM 397 and MATH 121 (FW 2017/18) after the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided the following:

1. Although your circumstances for missing the add deadline are weak, I will allow you to add CHEM 213 and CHEM 312 late as it appears that you are actively participating in these classes and I assume that you are caught up with all the material and assignments to date. This decision is based solely on the fact that you have been participating and you are close to graduating and require these courses as part of your degree.

2. I must however, deny your request to add the remaining courses late. There is no evidence that you have been fully participating in these courses but more importantly, your academic standing remains in a precarious state. Your transcript shows that you are on academic probation so it is imperative that you raise your GPA to 1.60 this year; otherwise you face the possibility of a requirement to withdraw for one year. Your grades from last year show that you struggled a great deal and I am not convinced that you are able to take on more than two courses, especially if you need to catch up on 8 weeks of class material.

I would recommend that you add your 300 level CHEM option courses for winter term where you can start fresh from the beginning of term. You may also take MATH 121 and any remaining elective courses online over the summer or next year. You are welcome to meet with your Undergraduate Chair in Chemistry or an academic advisor in the Faculty Office to assist you with drafting an academic plan for completing the remaining courses for your degree.

If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean€™s decision to the Board of Studies, you must submit an appeal to the Board of Studies within 21 days of the date this decision was sent.
