I have carefully considered your appeal to drop ENGL 259, LAW 201 (F 2016) and HIST 124 (FW 2016/17) past the academic deadline as well as to receive an extension of your incomplete grades in EMPR 220, WRIT 265 (F 2016), HLTH 200, LLCU 249 (W 2017), FILM 300 and HIST 207 (S 2017). After reviewing your file I have decided the following:
1. Your instructor in FILM 300 (S 2017) assigned you an incomplete grade at the end of summer term and accepted your late work, as per your agreement, within the regular IN deadline. Therefore, this request does not require an appeal. Once your new grade is received, it will be entered on your transcript.
2. Your instructor in HIST 207 initially agreed to an IN grade in August on the condition that you communicate with her to negotiate alternatives for the assignments and final exam. As you stopped communicating after August 22 and the alternatives were not negotiated, she is no longer willing to extend this agreement further. I have considered an extension of your incomplete grade in this course but I cannot allow it. As per Appeal Regulation 3.3.5, students must have actively participated in the course and only have one or two course elements outstanding to be eligible for a further extension (see http://www.queensu.ca/artsci/sites/default/files/appeal_regulations.pdf to view the full regulation.) As you have not completed any of the work for HIST 207 to date, you are not eligible for this option.
3. I will grant your request to drop HIST 124 late and extend your incomplete grades in HLTH 200 and LLCU 249. Your final grades for HLTH 200 and LLCU have been received and will be posted to your transcript now.
4. I will deny your request to drop ENGL 259 and LAW 201 and extend your incomplete grades in EMPR 220 and WRIT 265.
I am granting your appeal requests from the 2017 winter term because the documentation you supplied sufficiently confirms your extenuating circumstances over this timeline (January to April, 2017). However, it does not cover the 2016 fall term. The 3 ER records indicated that you visited the hospital on January 2, 3 and 28. The letters from Dr. Shilensky and Dr. Kulczycki both indicate that you self-reported extenuating circumstances from January to August, 2017 and the letter from Julia Heeps confirms the timeline, severity and impact that your extenuating circumstances had on your studies from January through the winter term. However, there is no documentation to cover any circumstances earlier than January 2017. Without documentation to confirm the timeline and severity of your circumstances over the 2016 fall term as well as some indication as to how these circumstances affected your ability to drop classes by the deadline I cannot reasonably waive the academic regulations.
