I have carefully considered your request to have your appeal heard after the one-term timeline for submission. Based on the circumstances you refer to in your letter of appeal, I have decided to waive the timeline and subsequently grant your appeal to drop CISC 102, CISC 121 and STAT 263 (W 2017) past the academic deadline.
Given the information presented in your appeal, I am also willing to allow you to drop CISC 102 from the 2016 Fall term as well. If you would like to accept this offer, please email asc.appeals@queensu.ca within 21 days of receiving this decision and we will make the appropriate changes to your transcript.
I strongly endorse your decision to take some time away from your studies to focus on your health. It is my hope that you will have a strong recovery and return to your studies once you are well again and fully poised for academic success. The appeals system is not designed for ongoing use to cope with a chronic health issue. If you find that your health condition begins to affect your studies again at any point in the future, you need to actively drop courses by the published deadlines. If you require any advice or assistance at any time, I urge you to contact the Faculty Office for assistance at 613-533-2470.
Note that any change in academic registration (e.g. dropping courses) may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding such as OSAP, scholarships, or bursaries. Please consult with the Student Awards Office (Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall) to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load. A change in academic registration may also affect a student€™s enrollment status as a full or part-time student, eligibility for student visas, or benefits through external agencies.
I am confident that in the future you will make every effort to inform yourself of the academic regulations concerning deadlines as they are outlined in Important Dates Section on the Arts and Science web page. These deadlines have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students and to facilitate the timely completion of university studies at Queen's.
