Decision Letter
Appeal Number: 3980
Decision Date: January 16, 2018
Associate Dean: Jill Atkinson, Ph.D.
Student Name: Rachel Atkins
Student Email: 13rta@queensu.ca
Dear Ms. Atkins:
I have reviewed your request to complete the final year of your BA (Honours) degree with a Medial concentration in Psychology and Sociology at a visiting university. As you know, Regulation 14.4 indicates that €œnormally the last two years of the Honours degree are taken in the Faculty of Arts and Science at Queen€™s.€ However, given the circumstances explained in your letter of appeal, and the support of the Psychology and Sociology Departments, I agree to this request. Please consult with your departments regularly to ensure that the courses you select at your visiting institution(s) will properly fulfill the Queen€™s requirements for your degree.
As you also know, Academic Regulation 16.1.3 indicates the maximum number of transfer credits permitted for a Bachelor of Art Honours degree. In your case, you are permitted to use a maximum of 57.0 units of transfer credits in total (Plan courses and elective courses) and no more than 18.0 units in transfer credits toward your requirements for your PSYC Plan as well as no more than 18.0 units in transfer credits toward your requirements for your SOCY Plan. You can find the full regulation here: https://www.queensu.ca/artsci/sites/default/files/academic_regulations.pdfpage33
Your application for the letter of permission has been forwarded to Karen McBride for processing. Please allow up to 21 days to receive a response.
Note that official transcripts with final grades must be received by the Faculty of Arts and Science Office by 15 May to be considered for graduation at Spring Convocation, or by 15 October for Fall Convocation. Finally, please keep in mind that you must achieve a minimum grade of C on each course taken on a Letter of Permission, unless stated otherwise.
I wish you well in the remainder of your studies at Queen€™s, in your studies at your visiting institutions, and in your future undertakings.
Yours sincerely,
Jill Atkinson, Ph.D.
