I have carefully considered your appeal to receive Aegrotat standing in CISC 102 (F 2017). After reviewing your file I must unfortunately deny your request.
As you know, Academic Regulation 10.3.1. states that, Aegrotat estimated standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed and passed at least 60 per cent of the work for a course, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond his or her control, is unable to complete all of the work of the course.€ The Appeal Regulations go on to stress that Aegrotat standing will only be granted due to extenuating circumstances€. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students€™ records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student€™s performance was significantly compromised by extenuating circumstances beyond her control.
Aegrotat standing is only assigned in cases where a student is unable to complete their coursework; in this case, a final exam. Given that you are currently enrolled in four this term, it would appear that you are able to return to your studies. In this case, the appropriate remedy is to complete the final exam and preserve the academic integrity of the course. I would recommend prioritizing the completion of this course and consider dropping one of your winter term classes.
I would also like to note that this is the fifth time you have taken CISC 102 and the fifth time you have appealed to change grades. The appeals system is not designed for ongoing use to cope with a chronic health issue, therefore, further appeals based on continuing circumstances are generally not viewed favourably. You should not register in classes if you are not well enough to successfully complete them. If you do register and find that your health condition continues to affect your studies again at any point in the future, you should consult with your Accessibility Advisor and drop courses by the published deadlines. Our academic advisors can help you with these decisions as well and assist you with creating an academic plan for completing your degree requirements.
