Decision Letter

Appeal Number: 4149
Decision Date: February 21, 2018

Student Name: Marijke Helm
Student Email: 15mh73@queensu.ca

Dear Ms. Helm:

I have carefully considered your request to have your appeal heard after the one term deadline for submission, and have decided, based on the circumstances you refer to in your letter of appeal, to waive the timeline and grant you Credit standing in CLST 103 (W 2017), PSYC 100, FREN 150 (F/W 2016-17) and HLTH 230 (S 2017).

Your grade in these courses will appear on your transcript as CR.

While living with mental health difficulties is a significant challenge, students are encouraged to take a reduced course load and ensure appropriate accommodations are in place, if needed, by working with an accommodation advisor and registering with QSAS.

I would encourage you to evaluate the impact your health is having on your studies prior to week 8 of term and drop courses by the drop date if you believe your illness is jeopardizing your academic success. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the €œImportant Dates€ section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students and to facilitate the timely completion of university studies at Queen's. Appeals to change grades after the fact based on these same circumstances will likely not be granted in the future.

Sincerely,

Jill Atkinson, Ph.D.
