Dear Mr. Otchere-Jan:

I have carefully considered your appeal to drop MATH 126B (W 2014) past the academic deadline as well as receive Credit standing in POLS 110B, SOCY 122B and PSYC 100B (W 2014) and Aegrotat standing in ECON 110B (W 2014). After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant all of your requests with the exception of ECON 110.

The Economics Department, as a general rule, does not support Aegrotat standing in ECON 110. The reason for this is because of the way the course is structured. Microeconomics is taught in the fall term portion and the December exam is based on that material and Macroeconomics is taught in the winter term portion and the April exam is based on that material. Therefore, given that you attended much of the fall term but little of the winter term, you only learned the material for half of the course. Aegrotat standing is intended for students who have acquired enough of the foundational material to earn credit in a course even though they cannot complete it in full due to extenuating circumstances. In your particular case, you missed key material required for ECON 110; therefore, I cannot reasonably allow an Aegrotat grade. However, given your circumstances, I would be willing to allow you to drop this course instead. If you wish to accept this offer, please email asc.appeals@queensu.ca within 21-days of receiving this decision letter to confirm. Once we have received your request we will make the appropriate changes to your transcript.
