Dear Ms. Vincent:

I have carefully considered your appeal to drop PSYC 205 (F 2017), PSYC 251 (F 2017) and PSYC 236 (W 2018) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

I have granted this appeal based on the severity of your extenuating circumstances but need to warn you that the appeals process is not meant to be used to manage a chronic condition. Instead, students should register with QSAS and work with an accommodation advisor to manage their academics. This could include taking a lighter course load and would include evaluating the impact of your health on your studies prior to week 8 of term. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the €œImportant Dates€ section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure students have sufficient time to evaluate their performance and, if not keeping up with participation, readings, assignments, etc to drop without academic penalty. Appeals to drop after week 8 are typically only granted when a problem arises or becomes more acute after the drop deadline.

I would also like to inform you that the maximum number of units that an Arts & Science student can use towards their Arts & Science degree is 6.0 units (see Academic Regulation 3.7). You have completed LAW 201/3.0 (F 2017) and LAW 204/3.0 (W 2018). The LAW 202/3.0 course which you are currently registered in for the summer term exceeds our 6.0 unit limit so this course will not count towards your Arts & Science degree.
